What does a smart home subscription include and is it worth it?

The direct answer for smart home automation

A smart home subscription service provides ongoing monitoring, remote support, proactive maintenance, and system optimization so your home automation keeps working the way it was installed. Without it, most smart home systems gradually degrade as devices update, integrations break, and routines stop firing. Homeowners usually stop noticing until half the automations they paid for no longer work.

Whether it is worth it depends on one thing: do you want to manage the system yourself, or do you want it to just work? If you want it to just work, the math is straightforward.

The problem most smart home installations never solve.

The smart home industry is good at installation and terrible at what comes after. A system gets installed, works beautifully, and then three months later a firmware update breaks the lighting integration. Six months later the thermostat routine stops responding. A year later the homeowner has given up on half the features and just uses the basic stuff manually.

This is not a hardware problem. It is a support problem. Smart home ecosystems are living systems. Devices update independently, integrations require maintenance, and automations occasionally need adjustment as your routines change. The homes that feel effortless years after installation are the ones with someone actively keeping them that way.

Why we built ongoing support into our smart home plans

We saw too many homeowners with great systems that had slowly stopped working because nobody was minding them. Devices update and break integrations. Routines stop firing. And without someone keeping an eye on things, most people eventually stop using features they paid for and chalk it up to smart home being complicated. It is not complicated. It is just unsupported.

That is the problem our subscription plans solve. Whether you want fully hands-off monitoring and support, occasional check-ins, or prefer to manage everything yourself, we have a plan that fits.

Why the platform matters.

We build on Home Assistant running locally on hardware in your home. This is important for subscription value in one specific way: your system does not depend on our subscription to keep running. If you cancel your plan, your automations continue to function exactly as they were. You are not locked in the way you would be with a Control4 or Vivint system where the software license is tied to ongoing service.

The subscription exists because ongoing support makes the system better, not because we have engineered dependency. That distinction matters to us.
